Volunteers Wanted!
Portland, OR (Southeast Portland at the Eastmoreland Golf Course) • 09/30/2008
The Muscular Dystrophy Association is having it's semi-annual event at the Eastmoreland Golf Course on October 30th, 2008 from 8am - 4pm.
The MDA Lock-Up is a jail-themed fundraising event where we incarcerate business and community leaders and ask them to "raise bail" to get out of our jail. These folks are recruited ahead of time and asked to each raise enough money to send 3 kids to our annual MDA summer camp. The total bail is $2,400.00. On the day of the event, we will go out and pick these people up from their offices in our paddy wagon and bring them to the Eastmoreland Golf Course (2425 SE Bybee Ave. Portland, OR 97202) for one hour. While there, they will have their official mug-shot taken, enjoy some great "bread and water" provided by the restaurant, get to mingle with the other "friendly felons" from the local business community all while trying to finish raising their bail for MDA! We provide cell phones with air time for those who still need to make calls to finish raising their bail.
We are looking for 13 people to help us all day on the day of the event with a variety of tasks to help make this a fantastic day!
The jobs include:
* Arresting Officers - these folks will ride in the vehicles with our drivers, go into the business to "arrest" our jailbird, serve them the warrant and then escort them into the restaurant. This is a great job for those with a ton of energy and who like to make a scene (it's actually encouraged in many cases)
· Processors - these 2 positions are the people who will take the mug shots of our jailbirds and get them seated
· Judge - the judge will help do orientation with each of our jailbirds and walk them through what will happen during their jail stay
· There will also be other miscellaneous jobs as need that include, but are not limited to, helping get drinks for jailbirds, clearing tables, stuffing pledge envelopes, cheering for jailbirds, etc.
Each person that participates will receive breakfast and lunch that day, a small token of our appreciation and a letter stating that they finished X number of hours while they were there that day.
