Social/Recreational Companion to Individuals with Disabilities
Portland, OR • 08/29/2007
The goal of the Companion Program is to encourage independence and healthy lifestyles by providing needed support to individuals with disabilities who want to participate in recreational activities and establish natural supports in their communities. Some may choose to work-out at a fitness club three times a week or swim at their local aquatic center. Other participants prefer being social while accessing community recreation options like Saturday Market, county fairs, restaurants and local sporting events. Whatever the activity, Social/Recreational Companions will ensure that the person they are working with has an enjoyable and empowering experience. SRCs will have opportunities to work with a variety of people in diverse settings and, more importantly, they will have the chance to positively impact someone's life.
Social/Recreational Companions' work schedules will be very flexible and the pay scale will vary depending upon experience. All applicants must minimally hold current CPR/1st Aid certification, pass a criminal history background check, and show 3yr driving record history. Experience working/volunteering with people with disabilities preferred. P/T positions currently available. We are also asking for at least a 1 year commitment.
Interested applicants should send a cover letter along with their resume to Companion Program Director, Michael Terhorst, at AWL1@awloutdoors.com
