Position Description
The Communications Department is seeking a copywriter and communications professional responsible for generating copy and editing all internal and external documents, including press releases, talking points, member magazine, email blasts and Web site.
Superior writing skills, editing skills, ability to work effectively with news media, strong computer literacy and knowledge of the Internet are required. Applicants should have at least a BA in Journalism or Public Relations or equivalent experience and track record. Experience in a non-profit advocacy organization or political campaign is preferred.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Writing editing and maintaining current information on the website.
Facilitating, writing and editing quarterly magazine, monthly online newsletter, email blasts and other external communications.
Soliciting and edit department/contributor submissions.
Writing and editing talking points and news releases
Writing and editing op-eds for national media.
Managing projects given to Communications team giving extra attention to quality, accuracy, timeliness.
Coordinate messages and communications among all departments to ensure consistent message, avoid redundancy, optimize readability.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related discipline.
Outstanding news writing skills.
Excellent advocacy judgment and strategic planning.
Thorough understanding of news media operations.
Demonstrated ability to write and edit in a number of different mediums.
Ability to work quickly under deadline pressure.
A minimum of 4 years of journalism and/or public relations experience.
Preferably located in the Portland, Ore. metropolitan area.
